Share with friends

Memorial services are scheduled Wednesday for MaryAlice Kaloostian, a longtime staffer for several central San Joaquin Valley legislators.

Kaloostian, who worked for three state senators, died last week. She last served on the staff of now-former state Sen. Tom Berryhill, who termed out in 2018.

In a statement, state Sen. Andreas Borgeas offered “my deepest condolences to her family and friends.”

“During her tenure, she served former Assemblyman and Senator Chuck Poochigian, Senator Dave Cogdill and Senator Tom Berryhill. She then retired to travel and spend time with her family,” Borgeas said.

A ‘Hardworking Go-Getter’

Commenters to her page described her as a “hardworking go-getter” and someone who “could light up a room just by walking in!”

In 2013, state Sen. Tom Berryhill tweeted this photo of Kaloostian next to the first F-15 Eagle fighter jet received by Fresno’s 144th Fighter Wing.

Kaloostian was the eldest of three children born to George and Jackie Kaloostian in Fresno.

Visitation will be held at Yost & Webb Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church.

Correction: A previous version of this story, based Kaloostian’s obituary at, said her funeral service would be Thursday. Yost & Webb Funeral Home confirms that it will be Wednesday, May 15.
