gvwireSen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is bringing his bid to challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 election to Fresno City College.
The “Bernie 2020 College Rally” at the community college campus is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday. According to his campaign, doors will open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
A campaign news release said that Sanders sees young and Latinx voters as his path to victory.
“There is no doubt, the Latinx community and young voters will deliver Bernie Sanders’ victory in the California primary,” said Rafael Návar, state director for the Sanders campaign. “No other candidate is prepared to take on a system that has disenfranchised hard-working people.”
Sanders also will appear at Riverside City College and California State University, Bakersfield, on Thursday before the Fresno City College event.
In 2016, Sanders lost out to Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Recent polling indicates a tight race between former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Sanders in the Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire primaries.
