ALBANY, N.Y. – New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo angrily responded late Wednesday to President Donald Trump’s threat to “defund” New York City and other Democratic cities that have seen violent protests, warning Trump he would “need an army” if he returned to the city of his birth.
Cuomo, a Democrat, hastily called a conference call with reporters Wednesday night after the White House issued a five-page memo threatening to cut federal funding to what it called “anarchist institutions.”
The memo defines the term as as any city that has “refused to undertake reasonable measures” to curb violence and property destruction.
But it specifically mentioned four largely Democratic cities: New York City, Portland, Seattle and Washington D.C.
