gvwireAn analysis of the latest polls by elections website FiveThirtyEight indicates that California’s Sept. 14 gubernatorial recall is too close to call.
The analysis says that 48.8% of California voters oppose the recall. Removal of first-term Gov. Gavin Newsom is backed by 47.6%.
FiveThirtyEight says that its analysis includes “an updating average of 2021 California gubernatorial recall election polls, accounting for each poll’s quality, recency, and sample size.”

The other big takeaway offered by FiveThirtyEight: 19.3% of voters would replace Newsom with Republican Larry Elder.
Democrat Kevin Paffrath is second at 9.1%, followed by Republican John Cox at 6.1%, among the replacement candidates.
