High-country visitors to Yosemite National Park should be prepared for an overnight storm that could bring several inches of snow above 6,000 feet starting Sunday evening, with snow spreading southward in the Sierra to the Tehachapis of Kern County by Monday.
The same storm could bring some rain to the drought-parched Valley Sunday night or early morning, but you’ll still want to leave your Sunday sprinklers on — only about one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch of rain is forecast, said Modesto Vasquez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
“It will be mainly a Sierra Nevada system,” Vasquez said Friday.
The weekend showers forecast for the Valley will extend only as far south as Fresno County, he said.
Unless Smoke Shifts, It Should Be a Great Weekend To Be Outdoors
Next week’s weather is forecast to be dry with high temperatures in the 70s, as is typical for this time of year in the Valley. But Vasquez said forecasters are looking longer range at a potential trough that could bring precipitation to Northern California and possibly a bit more rain here.
If you’re staying in the Fresno area, Saturday will be a good day for outdoor activities, assuming that the smoke from nearby wildfires or the new fire burning in Santa Barbara County does not shift in our direction. The forecast high for Fresno on Saturday is 81 degrees and 80 degrees on Sunday.
