News“Orca,” a film portraying the real-life story of an Iranian woman who survived an assault by her estranged husband and became a long-distance swimmer, will be presented Friday by Fresno State’s CineCulture.
Elham Asghari’s struggles included having to wear a special full-length hijab swimsuit that added about 13 pounds to her weight and swimming over the objections of her nation’s sports federation.
The film will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Peters Education Center Auditorium, 5010 N. Woodrow Ave. The auditorium is west of the Save Mart Center in the Student Recreation Center. Admission and parking, which is not enforced on campus after 4 p.m. on Fridays, are free.
The director, Sahar Mosayebi, will discuss the film.
CineCulture, which promotes cultural awareness through film and post-screening discussions, is a film series provided as a service to the Fresno State and Valley communities. It’s also a three-unit academic course at the university.
